Rolls-Royce awards Gas Turbine and Compressor Testers to Advint

Rolls-Royce has selected Advint to develop and produce a new line of test/data acquisition systems for its industry leading RB-211 and Trent gas turbines and compressor units. Initial order is for three (3) systems with a potential for up to nine (9) systems total.

The RB-211 is used in on-shore and off-shore oil and gas applications, mechanical drive and power generation providing 34,900-44,500 bhp of power. The Trent is used in power generation, oil and gas applications and provides up to 85,830 bhp. The Trent is derived from the high by-pass-ratio aero engine in service on the Airbus A330 and Boeing 777, with the industrial version setting new standards as the largest and most efficient unit available for power generation and mechanical drive applications. Both units are based upon Rolls-Royce gas turbine technology together with its centrifugal compressors to provide a full product range for gas compression and oil pumping duties both on and offshore. Rolls-Royce has over 1700 systems deployed world-wide and nearly 500 units in place for offshore platform service.

Trent 60 Engine Test Facility Offshore Drilling Platform Energy Pipeline

Rolls-Royce supplies aero-derivative gas turbine generating sets for land based power projects up to 150MW (2xTrent combined cycle) for today’s distributed generation environment. Its aero-engine technology is used to produce aero-derivative gas turbine generating sets including the RB211 at 32MW and the Trent at up to 58MW to meet a wide range of power requirements. Rolls-Royce has more than 45,000MW of electrical power installed world-wide.

Advint’s test/data acquisition system consists of a National Instruments PXI and SCXI chasses, line monitoring, digital barometer, and a multitude of differential/gage pressure transmitters. The PXI chassis contains a 16-bit Multifunction DAQ with 1.25 MS/s sampling, and a counter/timer unit. The SCXI chassis contains Thermocouple Input Modules, Current Excitation Modules, Amplifier Modules and D/A Analog Out Modules to monitor the performance of the engine during test. The system provides interface.
