Orton Ceramic selected Advint to perform software development in support of its line of high termperature thermoanalytical instrumentation. Advint is developing new PID control software using the National Instruments LabVIEW software to provide a robust software implementation for Orton's indsutry leading equipment. Thermoanalytical Instruments are used to measure changes in the physical properties of materials when they are heated or cooled. Orton manufactures a range of thermoanalytical instruments (dilatometers, gradient furnaces, and glass testing instruments) designed specifically for ceramics, glass, whitewares, structural clay, refractories, technical ceramics, investment casting bodies, electronic ceramics, electrical ceramics, advanced ceramics, and other materials for R&D, QC, and educational applications.
Orton provides Pyrometric Monitoring Devices for thermal processing, and analyticaliInstruments for measuring thermal properties to more than 70 countries worldwide. The roots of the Edward J. Orton Jr. Ceramic Foundation date back to the establishment of the Standard Pyrometric Cone Company in 1896 by Dr. Edward Orton Jr. Dr. Orton was a pioneer in developing and applying scientific principles to ceramic manufacturing. In 1894, he was appointed the first Chairman of the Ceramic Engineering Department at The Ohio State University, the first ceramic engineering school in the United States. The Foundation currently occupies a 33,000 square foot facility in Westerville, Ohio, a northeastern suburb of Columbus, Ohio, approximately 20 minutes from the Port Columbus International Airport.
