Advint has been selected by L-3 Communications, a leading defense company, to build a new line of portable automatic test systems. The Land-Based Phalanx Weapon System (LPWS) is a short term solution to counter-rockets, artillery and mortars known as C-RAM. It provides 360-degree coverage with a high probability of kill. The system engages autonomously, but the operator is responsible for allowing engagements to occur. When in place, the system will be integrated into base defense capabilities and be moveable, although no shoot on-the-move capability is required. The C-RAM system will be a holistic solution. Intercept is only one of six pillars (intercept, sense, warn, deny, respond and protect) that make up the C-RAM mission.
Eight (8) C-RAM test sets will be delivered initially to ensure adequate field maintenance support. These testers will provide forward support of Cincinnati Electronics infrared products contained in the LPWS. The tester contains a ruggedized computer, camera interface, multiple power supplies, and other ancillary equipment.
L-3 Communications is headquartered in New York City. The company employs over 63,000 people worldwide and is a prime system contractor in aircraft modernization and maintenance, C3ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) systems and government services. The company also is a leading merchant supplier of guidance and navigation products and systems, sensors, scanners, fuzes, data links, propulsion systems, avionics, electro optics, satellite communications, electrical power equipment, encryption products, signal intelligence, antennas and microwave products. L-3 Communications has grown very quickly into the sixth largest defense company in the United States with reported 2006 sales of $12.5 billion.
