ABB enlists Advint to develop new Paper Mill data acquisition system

Data acquisition system monitors paper weight, moisture, and caliper at a rate up to 1,000 feet per minute

ABB has selected Advint to provide an upgraded data acquisition system for paper mill automation. The upgrade requires an instrument driver conversion, integration of LabVIEW application software, and development of prototype hardware based upon a CompactDAQ solution. The original software was initially developed in an earlier version of LabVIEW that used traditional DAQ driver and PCMCIA DAQ cards. The new system will use National Instruments latest CompactDAQ-9172 8-slot chassis containing high performance analog and digital I/O packaged in a rugged enclosure for field use.

The upgraded system will convert to new DAQmx driver for CompactDAQ using LabVIEW Version 8.5. The system will sample two (2) channels at a 20 KHz rate. In addition, the solution provides an upgraded user interface, and enhanced continuous scroll trending capability. The system will also provide additional sensor calculations in accordance with customer specific algorithms.
